EARLY YEARS

The band was founded in 2008 under the name Duath by György Kantár with some friends, including László Bagi and Gergő Sövény. Although they didn't have a concept at first, since the members themselves started making music only a few years ago, Gergő's themes and Gyuri's musical influences (Nile and underground black metal) soon marked the way: oriental melodies and heavy black-death metal. The band, which was actively rehearsing in Székesfehérvár, soon went to the studio and recorded its first demo. The lyrics, which were primarily based on Egyptian mythology, were written in Hungarian by Gergő Sövény. On the demo vocal front, Kápi, a friend of the band, helped out, but he did not want to continue playing music in the long term, so Duath tried to find a singer for himself on the Internet. That's how Dániel Szöllősi joined them, who at that time was already actively involved in several underground bands, and whose previous power and death metal formation, Charmadynia, broke up just then.

With Dani's arrival, a major turning point occurred in the band's life. Joint songwriting began, as a result of which symphonic elements and melodic vocals appeared in the music, doom metal stylistic features came to the fore, and the lyrics were in English. The band soon changed its name, started playing concerts, and recorded its first demo, Eclipse of the Sun, which was praised not only by the audience, but also by critics appearing in the columns of webzines. In addition to the rearranged and recomposed versions of former Duath songs, the demo also included two brand new songs, the lyrics of which were already written by Zoltán Fekete, the excellent guitarist who joined at the time. Zoli's influences are primarily Gothenburg death metal and old and new school U.S. were power metal bands like Iced Earth and Nevermore.

Over time, two founding members, Gergő Sövény - who was only responsible for the synthesizer for some time - and Laci Bagi left the band, but life did not stop, in fact. In the person of Róbert "Robosz" Várkonyi, who came from the thrash metal scene of Székesfehérvár, the band found its new drummer. The EP "Symbols" was born under the hands of the formation thus created, and during this period the band achieved professional successes, such as winning the second place and the special prize for the best singer at a national talent search festival, and thus they were able to perform in places, such as the VOLT Festival and with the Kalapács band. Along with the change of members, the world of music also changed. It became more guitar-oriented, power and death metal influences came to the fore, and the former oriental melodic world began to be replaced by more classic doom metal.

CATHEDRALS OF DOOM

The next milestone was the creation of an international doom metal compilation. The compilation album Cathedrals of Doom included songs from bands representing five different doom metal styles from five different countries. The selection was also very well received internationally, and the band Eclipse of the Sun is still very proud of being one of the first in the history of the Internet, who - especially as a Hungarian band - was able to create such an international collaboration. and thereby raise the doom metal flag even higher.

DAIMONION

In 2015, the time came for the first real Eclipse of the Sun album to be born. The concept album Daimonion was extremely well received: on the one hand, it brought many new domestic and foreign fans to the band, and on the other hand, it achieved significant professional successes, such as being nominated in the Best Debut Album and Best Cover categories at the HangSúly Music Awards, or that Fémforgács in his current sound check, he introduced releases such as Slayer's then-album.

Since Fekete Zoli left the band a year before the album was born, the songwriting and lyric writing process was entirely handled by Dani. For this reason, although many of Zoli's guitar themes were included on the material, this album primarily presented Dani's musical world.

Daimonion's lyrics told a cohesive story about a young billionaire named Dan Ibiru, who on the one hand doubts himself because he feels that he is not really living his own life, but only the one his parents have left for him. After a solar eclipse, he begins to hear a voice in his head that encourages him to rethink everything he thought about the world and use its influence to found a new world religion. Promote the new age of philosophy that morality is unnatural and that people can only be happy if they abolish the concept of right and wrong.

Although it may not seem like it at first, Damionion's textual and musical world has become very personal. There were changes in Dani's life that caused him to experience an extremely strong emotional and worldview crisis. As a result, although the musical style features of power metal were still visible in some songs, doom metal came to the fore on this material, and the band also began to define itself as a death doom metal band. The symphonic elements became more prominent again, and thanks to Robosz's technical knowledge and Gyuri's creativity, the music became more progressive.

After the birth of the Daimonion album, the search for a guitarist began, and Gergő Kovács, who mainly plays and listens to progressive and modern metal music, joined the band. In addition to many local performances, the resulting line-up tried to give as many successful concerts as possible in different parts of the country.

Finally, another milestone in the band's life followed: after becoming a father, Robosz decided that he no longer wanted to play music, and therefore left Eclipse of the Sun. After a long search, he was replaced by Dávid Antal, a student at the Kodolányi jazz department at the time, who, as a true metal fan, quickly found himself in the band.

BRAVE NEVER WORLD

Four years after the release of the first album, the second full length LP was created. This album marks the first recording contribution of Gergő and David, with the songwriting responsibilities still held by Dani. So it is natural that this became a classic death-doom record. The songs aren’t telling a coherent story so the songs are presenting a more coherent, music oriented style. The album is a monumental, rich, occasionally progressive musical journey with excellent live songs.

After the creaton of the material, an intensive search for a label followed, as a result, seeing the successes of the past years and the musical quality of the new material, several foreign underground labels contacted the band. Finally, the material was released under the joint management of Russian (now Georgian) Sathanath Records and More Hate Productions. Thanks to their work, BNW has reached many countries, mainly in Eastern Europe, and thanks to the international release, the band has already received more attention here as well.

After the pandemic and the subsequent shock subsided in the next two or three years, the band gained new strength. Together with several excellent Hungarian doom metal bands, they breathed life into the scene as part of the Doom for Gloom concert tour, and since early 2023 they put more effort to their online presence too.
